How we scored them

The Shelf Score weighs fit for the reader, contents and edition, and value. None of the five picks lists a reading age or grade level, so the score leans on release timing, series position and how completely the listing describes the book. How we pick explains the weights.

Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each book’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score. Reading age or level counts on a list where at least one listing gives one, and a book whose listing gives none then scores zero on it. Where no listing gives one, the score is taken over the other 85 points. Books carry no warranty, so warranty is not scored.

How to choose the best romantasy releases 2026

Decide how much fantasy you want

Strictly, only the Heather Graham pick has fantasy elements: a paranormal mystery romance with a psychic agent. The other four are contemporary romances. If the reader wants true romantasy, start with our dark romantasy books list instead.

Check the series position

Voice of Fear is book 38 of the Krewe of Hunters series, a deep entry point for a new reader. Italy and Forever is book 4 of the Wedding Planners series but reads as a standalone per its listing. The other three are standalones. For more fantasy-leaning series, see the high romantasy books list.

Match the release to the season

Winter Whispers on the Riviera published September 2, 2026 and leans festive; Just for the Season published August 24, 2026 and leans autumnal. Love You More published July 7, 2026. Pick the season the reader is in.

Before you buy

• Confirm the format: listings state eBook, audiobook and paperback in different combinations.
• For series books, check the book number: Voice of Fear is book 38, Italy and Forever is book 4.
• Check the publication date on the listing to confirm you are buying the 2026 release.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mostly not. Four are contemporary romances; the Heather Graham pick is a paranormal mystery romance, the closest to romantasy on this list.

Do I need to read the Krewe of Hunters series in order?

Voice of Fear is book 38 of 38, so starting there means meeting long-running characters mid-stream. New readers may prefer a series starter.
