About ShelfAnswers

ShelfAnswers helps readers, parents, students and teachers pick the right book for a specific reader or goal: a first fantasy series for an adult who never read one, a chapter book for a seven year old who just started reading alone, the SAT prep book that fits six weeks of self-study, or the math workbook that matches a third grader who needs extra practice.

We write for four kinds of reader. Adults choosing their next book or a book club pick. Parents and grandparents buying for kids and teens. Students and working adults preparing for an exam or a licensing test. And homeschool families and tutors choosing workbooks and curriculum levels.

Book listings answer some questions and leave others out. We answer the ones readers actually ask before they buy. Which book in a series comes first? Is this the current edition of the test prep book? What reading age or grade level does the listing give? Does the workbook include an answer key? Is there a box set, and which books does it hold?

How we choose books

We build each list from what the publisher and the product listing state: title and author, edition and publication date, page count, format, reading age or grade level, series position and what the book contains, such as practice tests, answer explanations or an answer key. Every book on a list carries a Shelf Score built from the same published criteria. Our How We Pick page explains the method and its limits.

We are direct about those limits. We do not claim to have read every book on every list, and we never write as if we had. When a list says a book has 432 pages or a grade level of 3 to 7, that comes from the retailer listing.

What we will not do

  • We do not post answers to textbook or workbook exercises, test questions from real exams, or copies of copyrighted pages. Where an answer key exists, we point to the book the publisher sells.
  • We do not link to free PDF downloads or any unauthorized copy of a book.
  • We do not invent page counts, editions, reading ages or ratings, and we do not copy customer reviews or star ratings into our articles.
  • We do not write prices into our articles, because they change constantly.

Who runs ShelfAnswers

ShelfAnswers is written and edited by the ShelfAnswers Editors. The team sets the editorial standards, maintains the Shelf Score method, decides what gets published, and is responsible for accuracy and corrections. How we use AI drafting tools is explained in our Editorial Policy.

How we are funded

ShelfAnswers earns money through affiliate links. When you buy through one, the retailer may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. A commission never decides what we recommend or how we rank it. The details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.
